Step 1
Complete an approved BN, meet RN registration and permit requirements, and build qualifying Canadian RN practice. Athabasca requires 5,000 clinical hours in the past 5 years, including 3,500 direct patient-care hours, plus its academic and other admission requirements.
Step 2
Apply to Athabasca University’s Master of Nursing – Nurse Practitioner, Family/All Ages route. The updated program can take as little as 2 years and up to 5, including required clinical placements; admission and the shortest completion time are not guaranteed.
Step 3
Complete the approved NP program, meet CRNA NP registration requirements, including the appropriate examination and at least 4,500 RN practice hours satisfactory to the registrar, and obtain the required practice permit before using the NP title.
